There's two ways you can go about it.
You can make your function populate a global array, call teh function
at some time in your code, and later use that global array in some
other function(s).
Or, you can make your function actually return a value (an array in
this case) and call it as and when required, in place of an array. To
the caller, the function will "look like" an array itself, as that is
what it returns when you call it.
