How to check if an image exist or not

Hi all,

I want to check whether one image file exists or not in cake, I coded
like this (in my helper file):

if( !file_exists( WEBROOT_DIR.'/img/'.$file ) )
{...}

However, it cannot check it correctly. Can anyone tell me how can
manage it? Thanks.
