The only devices that have 1.6 that I can think of are the T-Mobile G1
(if the device has the OTA upgrade), the HTC Tattoo (not sold in the US
but is available on eBay), and the Google Ion (see below). The DROID has
2.0. Most other stuff, AFAIK, has 1.5 at present, though I really can't
keep score of all the devices...

If you don't need 1.6 or 2.0 right off the bat, just about any Android
phone should be OK for development.

I wouldn't shell out big bucks for one, and the ADP1 seems to be
perpetually backordered, anyway.

That being said, right now, I see there's a Google Ion up for sale on
eBay for cheap -- that's a limited-edition HTC Magic (a.k.a., T-Mobile
myTouch 3G) that *is* a developer phone, where you can flash other
firmware. Whether you use it much for that purpose or not is up to you,
but it's a fine choice for development, and you can download and flash
1.6 on it. The eBay listing is a bit squirrely, IMHO, but it's worth at
least considering. Auction ends in a few hours. Looking at completed
listings, it looks like 1-2 of these pop up a week right now.
