Yes, it will. Bad code can make it slower, but good code will not
make it fast enough. 50,000 is simply too many (what viewer is
actually going to look at 50,000 spots on a map anyway?)

Search for marker clustering in the first case.
But I think for 50,000 you will need to use server-generated custom
overlay tiles.
