[Rails] Re: no such file to load -- ferret

Ah yes.... :-) correct.

I accessed my public area on the host server and ran:

sudo gem install ferret

THis returned with the following:

Building native extensions. This could take a while...
ERROR: Error installing ferret:
ERROR: Failed to build gem native extension.

/usr/bin/ruby1.8 extconf.rb
extconf.rb:11:in `require': no such file to load -- mkmf (LoadError)
from extconf.rb:11

What exactly does this mean and how do I fix it? I do apologise, I've
spent all day looking for this, and I'm not sure where to go..
