More and more parents are choosing to work at home so they can have
more quality time to spend with their families. What happens though,
when both parents want to stay at home and work? Team business ideas
are becoming more popular as two parents are looking to save money by
reducing job-related expenses. With a little planning and perhaps some
career training, there are several business ideas work at home parents
can pursue.
One of the easiest roles is for qualified trade people to go into
business for themselves. Whether it is an interior designer,
electrical or plumbing specialist, handyman or professional organizer,
these roles can be transitioned into team business ideas. One parent
can be in charge of performing the task required (the specialist),
while the other parent can be in charge of administrative duties
including: bookkeeping, order procurement, advertising, appointment
setting/reception and more (office manager). These ideas would allow
for more quality time at home as well as expanded tax incentives.
Other ideas for stay at home parents involve both parents working in
the same capacity. Real estate professionals, tandem massage
therapists, lawn care providers all allow more than one person to work
doing the same job; at the same time. This not only allows for a
reduction of job-site transportation costs, but also allows for a
greater income capacity/shorter working hours; as a partner would be
on-site. The only downfall to this idea is parents who have young
children. If school-aged, both parents can work in tandem while their
children are at school; otherwise a sitter will need to be booked
which can diminish profits.
Finally, there is a combination of the two team business ideas that
may work for parents: specialization. For example, if the husband is a
contractor and the wife an interior decorator, the contractor can be
away from the home while the structural part of the job is being
completed and the wife can come in later to add the "finishing
touches". Having specializations allow for continuity with respect for
childcare and eliminates the need to hire outside help.
