Listening to Keyboard Events

Hi,

I have a requirement wherein i want my app to listen to keyboard
events (example, user pressing the 'Shift' key)
How do I go about implementing this?

Also, what should be the approach if i wanted a similar functionality
but only for a particular panel (and not global)?
