The damper on the forklift-sized fire door I was thinking of doesn't
support any weight at all, the hinges do that.

If this gate is statically balanced the only energy the dampener has
to absorb came from the person shutting it.

I've seen cantilevered scissor gates with a supporting swivel caster
at the opening edge. Maybe adding a caster would provide enough drag
to prevent damage from slamming the gate. It would also lessen the
load on the pivot hinges.

It looks like the press will collapse the cab roof when it tips forward.

I couldn't tell what the item under the lathe bed was, it looked a little
like a blurry head.

The reason is the Toyota problem has killed and will kill again.

It can kill you and your family at time...even if you do not own a
Toyota.

If you do not understand that, your family should kick you in the
pants for your total lack of regard for their welfare.

Jackson's story was the typical celebrity story that Americans
love...remember the buzz around Elvis?

Go read the latest news...Ford has the same problem.

Wanna bet that all the manufacturers have their engineers working on

Good comments.

I agree that more info needs to be presented to the user.

That will not happen...unless forced.

The more the company admits to the problem, the larger the economic
hit due to lawsuits.

So companies hide the bad news until it blows up in their face.

The other problem is even if the info is out there, few people pay
attention and will respond properly during an unexpected event.

When you are dealing with a multi thousand pound missile driven by the
typical driver, the last problems you want are unexpected acceleration
or lack of deceleration.

I've written test procedures for use by production floor personnel a
few times, and you can't imagine how badly some of them can
misinterpret simple instructions.

"Press any key to continue" is a good example. I had to add a check of
the BIOS memory that shows the CTRL, ALT and SHIFT key states to make
it work. For wise@$$ engineers I made those keys simulate the BSOD
briefly.

There are a lot of SB products in the Grizzly catalog, including some which
look a lot like some familiar/common Chinese products, only different.

The price isn't shown for the SB 4x6 bandsaw, noting that it will be

In God We Trust is not on all US money but I admit it is on enough to be
well worth while. ;)

Some points to ponder:
Why is it good if a vacuum cleaner really sucks?
Why is the third hand on a clock called the "second hand"?
Why did Kamikaze pilots wear helmets?
Why do we sing "Take me out to the ballgame" when we are already
there?

That's the right choice but a further waste of money. Let's just stop
putting superstition on buildings and money in the future.

"Lee Governor question - P1010005.JPG (0/1)" is the post in question,
and yes, it *is* a switch.

How you wire the contacts determines whether it acts as a governor,
limit switch, "up to speed" switch, etc. Functionally it is nothing more
than a set of contacts that open when an adjustable RPM set point is
reached.

You see that's the problem with a phobia, it is an irrational fear.
When you get down to it, humans mate at anytime. Even when the female
is not in season, or when she is biologically unable to reproduce at
all, so the idea that sex is only for reproduction is flawed from the
get go. We use sex to bond with our mates a lot more than we use it to
make little versions of ourselves, and we don't stop heterosexual
couples, that are incapable of bearing offspring, from having sex with
each other.

It isn't a completely self defeating mutation. Homosexuala can in fact
reproduce. They just don't like it. Some become active homosexuals after
reprodcing, some before.

Every range I've been too have a "no rapid fire" rule.
Most take it with a grain of reasonableness.

The first thing I do when I get to a range is draw and empty my pocket
pistol rapidly. Then I get out the guns I brought to shoot.
So far nary a mention. Even when I've had some defective pistols that
doubled. Now THAT is rapid fire!
