There is. It says "The old geocoding service has been retroactively
named to 'Geocoding V2 Web Service', which will remain maintained and
supported in accordance with our deprecation policy stated in the Maps
API Terms of Service."

The old service might be expected to remain the same.

The new service returns both long and short names of administrative
area, "Florence" and "FI", but I can't find how to change the output
language so it returns "Firenze".
