You don't say which distro you're using.

Using Debian, it's quite do-able.

However, I don't use Debianized versions of either Eclipse or FireFox.
Sun Java is in non-free. I don't know if Eclipse will work with another JDK.

GWT is platform-independent, so the "detailed instructions" are the same
for all platforms.

I'd suggest you start w/ the StockWatcher example to figure out how to
get all the pieces assembled.
