Re: lists of spots that link to marker (open infowindow, center map etc.)

for each list item, you can include something like this:

spotsList += "<li onclick='clickMarker(" + c + ")'>" +
gMarkers[c].title + "</li>";

then define the clickMarker as follows

function clickMarker(i) {
google.maps.event.trigger(gMarkers[i], 'click');
}

...
