Debug data to file?

I have a site which throws a mysterious amount of 404 - errors in
production. Since it's a public site I can't put debug on and see what
errors PHP / Cake is throwing at me.

Can I somehow redirect those errors to a file instead? It's not doing
it by default..both error.log and debug.log is empty...
