find distance between US addresses

I have a database in which i stored US locations,postal address and
zip code of each location.There is searching option on my site.
What i want is,when user enter a US location,it shows the location
from my DB with location close to user entered location at top.What i
mean is,the sorting order of search result should be according to
distance where close location shd come first in result.
Which google API can help me with this ? Plz provide me the link which
could help me in achieving this functionality.
