If you are getting a 500 error, then Apache is at least starting. This
means at least that you don't have a syntax error in Apache
configuration, so you idea that the mistake is in Apache configuration
is wrong.

Go look in the Apache error logs and find the series of logged error
messages from the time you make the request that gives the 500 error
and post them here.

Also post the part of the Apache configuration that relates to
mod_wsgi and Django setup.
