.htaccess seems to give a problem

Hello,

Since a short while I seem to have problems with the .htaccess file of
a website of mine. The website is hosted on a shared host and has been
running smoothly for 1.5 years. However since a week now I'm getting
the following error:

Error: The action webroot is not defined in controller AppController
Error: Create AppController::webroot() in file: app/controllers/
app_controller.php.

The .htaccess I had modified (in the three different location) to work
on the shared webhost by adding the following line after RewriteEngine
On:
RewriteBase /

For some weird reason this now doesn't work any more. I searched on
google and found 1 hit addressing this problem (http://
smithwebapps.com/cakephp-error-action-webroot-not-defined), tried that
solution but didn't make any difference. It's starting to drive me
absolutely crazy... Would anybody know an other solution I can try?
