Well, I'm not too sure what you're concerned about. Given that your
phone can run a web browser that will make tens of HTTP requests to a
web server per minute to render typical web pages with images, I don't
think you're asking for something out of its normal capability.

With any network communication, failure is always an option,
especially for mobile devices whose connectivity can come and go at
any instant. You do need to anticipate that and recover from errors
if you want to provide reliable service.
