y este habla especificamente de las lineas; http://econym.org.uk/gmap/basic7.htm

para usar mapmaker en vez del mapa normal, hay que especificar, asi:

map.setMapType(G_MAPMAKER_NORMAL_MAP);

yo uso mapmaker tambien, asi que no hay cobertura de google maps
normal en Guatemala tampoco - puede ver mi mapa aqui: http://xelawho.com/map/
