Really annoying problem, First App part 1 related

Ok, so when I do exactly as the tutorial says, I get hella errors. I
change directory to where I want to store my project which goes fine,
then:
>>> django-admin.py startproject mysite
SyntaxError: invalid syntax

with 'startproject' highlighted. The django-admin.py file is in the
directory I changed to.
