confusing comment in Roo Expenses App: "The selectionModel will not flash if we put it back to the same state it is already in"

In Roo generated Expenses app,
in AbstractProxyListActivity class,
in select method, there is this comment,
which I do not understand what it means.

"The selectionModel will not flash if we put it back to the same state it is already in"

I do not understand what is exactly meant by "Flash" and what the "states" actually are ?
what is the previous and current states ?

could you please clarify this ?
