ajax call test using SimpleTest

When doing unit test using SimpleTest, there is a story that:

In the action function, we check if the call is made by ajax call by
utilizing RequestHandler, if the request is not ajax call, exit
function directly.

In this case, how could we test this function with SimpleTest? in
other word, how could we emulate ajax call with SimpleTest framework??
