[Google Maps API v2] this V2 map works in everything *except* IE...why?

Hi everyone...

I have been pulling my hair out on this one and it just won't work in
IE 8 no matter what I try. :-)

I thought it was something to do with my div being positioned relative
but I removed all that and put the map in a straight 700px x 500px div
and I still get an incomplete rendering of the map.

I get no javascript errors and I have debugged in IE as much as
possible until I get into the google code.

can anyone give me a hint or some ideas?
