Check your admin url pattern. It should be:

(r'^admin/', include(admin.site.urls)),

not:

(r'^admin/(.*)', include(admin.site.urls)),

That 2nd one is half-converted from the old 1.0 admin.site.root pattern and will exhibit the behavior you describe.
