Re: RF for CRUD and RPC for others?

RF could be used to perform: 

1. CRUD operations on entities (without a service layer at all)

2. Call methods on your service layer, which can again return Entities or ValueProxies or Simple types!

So you are free to choose where to add your business logic, while the second option would be a natural fit.
