[android-developers] Is it possible to give gradient effect using code?

Currently I have an XML file which sets the gradient of the button background. 

Is it possible to achieve the following using code? If yes, can someone please give me a sample?

<gradient

    android:angle="270"

    android:startColor="#b3adad"

    android:endColor="#858080">

</gradient>
