Never mind i decided to do php way in shell

if (! $conn = mysql_connect( 'localhost', $db_name, $db_pwd ) ) {
echo 'Could not connect to mysql';
continue;
}else{
$this -> connection = $conn;
}

if( mysql_select_db( $db_name, $conn ) ){
