I added the removal of those names in my UpgradeShell script with
these patterns:

'remove var $name = ...;',
'/\bvar\s*\$name\s*=\s*(.*);/',

'remove public $name = ...;',
'/\bpublic\s*\$name\s*=\s*(.*);/',

),
);
