You seem to have a comprehension problem here. The debt doesn't all come due
at once. As it comes due, it's fully paid off. Then new debt is issued.

So as long as I can use my Visa to pay off my Mastercard bill, and use my
Mastercard to pay off my Visa bill, then I don't have a financial problem
because I always pay my debt and interest when it comes due?
What happens when this Merry-Go-Round stops?
Then what?

Yep, you borrow money to pay off what you owe, and then claim you're ok
fiscally.
Works right up until you can't borrow enough anymore then your little fiscal
house of cards buries you.

As an economist, you'd make a great men's room attendant.
Your personal finance guidelines don't apply to countries which are able to
a) print money and b) get other people to buy their debt.
The US' ability to do both is in no danger except from GOP demagogues who
don't want people to notice that they have no governing policy whatsoever,
other than to give corporations and wealthy families free rein to do
whatever the fuck they want.

You may be. Jim is one of those who looks at it somewhat mechanistically,
and, from that point of view, there is no evidence in modern American
history (or Japanese history, or most of European history) that he's not
correct. In terms of the sheer financial functions, it will keep working as
long as markets believe they'll be paid and that inflation won't be *too*
bad in the meantime -- or, at least, that it will be less than the risk one
would incur with other "safe havens." And that's exactly the case today.
Being somewhat more skeptical, I look at the vulnerabilities involved if
there is a cascade of confidence loss. But that's not a fiscal issue. That's
a social-psychology issue. And the professionals who are handling the big
money -- experts in risk and international financial issues -- show no signs
of running scared.
>Works right up until you can't borrow enough anymore then your little
>fiscal house of cards buries you.
Yeah. You can make a theoretical case either way. Again, there is no
financial reason that the cards should collapse. In terms of what's really
happening, and what really has happened, Jim is right: the house is secure,
until it's not. But it *is* secure now.

(1) NOTHING in the Bible says that the sexual OTIENTATION of
homosexuality is sinful. Only various sexual ACTIONS (both
gay and straight) are regarded as sinful.

I can't speak for others, but you can see that *I* want ONLY the
guilty to be punished. Such as Dahmer, and all murderers of abortion
doctors.

Response to an RCC-Cult ANTI-Choicer,
about the Martyred HERO, Dr. George Tiller
You know nothing of Dr. Tiller and his work, because you ignore the
facts. Dr. Tiller proved, in court, on more than one occasion, this his
work fully conformed to the laws of Kansas, a very conservative state.
Even when women begin to die, suffer sterility, maiming from the lack of
a late term abortion, or giving birth to grossly deformed babies, you'll
still ignore the facts. By the way, you and your "church" will protest
paying one cent of tax to care for the injured or dead women, or for the
costs of caring for a grossly deformed or handicapped baby during its
short lifetime. You'd rather the family be ruined to the point where
they're in poverty. And, you'll still refuse to pay any welfare costs
or costs of restoring the ruined family. That's the kind of person you
are, and the kind of people your "church" is.
Dr. Tiller was an actual Saint.

Thanks. I had forgotten about that newsgroup. I didn't mean to sound
like I was an electronic doofus, I'm familiar with a lot, but not
testing of discrete components. Normally I'd just replace them all, but
with the price per transistor, I'd like to test and replace only the
ones that are bad.
The amp was given to me, and if fixable, will rock out in my garage. I
need something that can be heard over the Bridgeport.
I'm trying harder. <G> (see below)

Better than Sheldon.
The C2837 is short for 2SC2837 (NPN) and the other is the
complementary PNP 2SA1186
Here are the original Sanken datasheets:-

When they're removed from the circuit, you should be able to use the
diode test function most multimeters have and check E-B and B-C both
ways. It should be open one way and read 500 or 600 or 700 the other
way. If it reads a dead short or open both ways then it's probably
blown. If both look like diodes, it's more than likely okay.
Typically the collector (middle pin of both types) is common with the
tab (which may be insulated from the heat sink).
Most multimeters these days have a transistor gain test function, but
it's not all that handy or useful in this case. If you can find a
schematic.. there might be little stuff gone at the same time.

From that description is sounds like the bad channel has blown one of
the output transistors. Since you have a scratchy sound it is likely that
it has blown open and not shorted. Can you put everything back together
and measure the DC voltage on the bad output? It should measure close
to zero when good. A positive voltage indicates that the transistor to
the negative supply is bad(open). A negative voltage indicates the
transistor to the positive supply is bad. A blown output transistor will often
take out the driver transistor too, or at least overstress it and shorten it's
remaining life.
Got a model # for the Denon so we can see about getting a schematic to
know for sure which transistors to go for?

From: "Paul Hovnanian P.E."
Is this generator supplying loads other than the pump? Single phase loads?
Even if the pump is the only load, good luck ensuring that the downstream
ganged breaker will trip first. If there are other loads (between the two
breakers), a gen breaker will almost certainly trip first.
What happens next will depend on what lies downstream of the (tripped) gen
breaker. Single phase loads on the tripped phase will end up in series with
the pump winding. While the voltage will probably collapse so that these
loads become inoperative, that leg will still be energized at some voltage.
If there's a fault there (what tripped the breaker), that could lead to a
hazardous situation.
Best bet is to replace the two gen breakers with a ganged unit. Don't feed a
line to line load from independent single pole breakers.

John,
Here is a question for you and your metalhead group.
Q: Say you had a 2 CYCLE motorcycle and you wanted to push start
it. Suppose that you got on it and turned on the ignition but didn't
hit the start button. Instead you depressed the clutch lever and put
it in 1st gear. Then four of your not so bright friends, two on each
side, pushed you and the bike BACKWARDS!! Remember there are two each
side so they should be able to keep you from falling over. After the
bike gains some momentum you pop the clutch. Now, the question is:
WILL THE BIKE START WITH THE ENGINE RUNNINGBACKWARDS??!? If not, why
not? The reason that it comes up is that I read about a new class of
ULCCs (UltraLargeCrudeCarriers -- Way big mutha oil tankers) that
have 2 cycle diesel engines with NO transmission, clutch or reduction
gears of any sort. The drive shaft comes out the back of the engine
and goes out the back of the hull and the propeller is bolted directly
to the end of it No gears, no clutch, no nothing. The way that they
reverse it is by shutting of the engine and then restarting it
BACKWARDS!!?! It is designed to do this, I'm wondering if all 2
cycle engines will run backwards or not? Inquiring minds want to
know.

In truth everyone has a valid point although I am not sure that it
explains the problem entirely.
I am about to give up using washers, at least the 2" variety for the
very reason you state: The thickness varies quite a bit, the quality
varies also. Their availability has decreased: I used to be able to go
to Fastenal and rummage in their bin and pick the ones that were
useful. Fastenal no longer stock them. You can order them but then you
have to take what they send you.
Anyway, to confuse matters further: Here is the first trial I did
today:

Make of it what you will. The next thing is to try increase the
distance between the plates and/or try to run the whole assembly on
its side so the bubbles have a free exit.
I included a picture of a piece that ended up like pig's breakfast
just to show that whatever it is that causes the pits it blasts its
way through 4 coats of resist if the conditions are right.
That is always assuming that the cause of the pitting in the different
pieces is the same.

I not saying anything about the fact that expenditures are out of

I beg to differ. From reading this and other Usenet groups it appears
to me that what people want is an answer that doesn't force them to
deviate from their set ways, especially if it forces them to get up
off the couch and actually do something. The Japanese in the wake of
their recent nuclear disaster reduced their energy use (in Tokyo) by
15%. Will Americans? Given the recent discussion about "my
dishwasher", which seemingly has become a necessity in America, it
seems unlikely.

The fact remains that the average world temperature is rising and has
been since about 1880 (apparently when the first reliable records were
available) and has accelerated since about 1980. This is not a matter
for conjecture as too many separate studies have all shown essentially
the same figures.

Again, too many separate agencies have published the same climb in
average earth temperance.

Now you come to the crux of the matter - is this warming, and I can't
believe that with the various indications - melting ice, higher ocean
levels, measured average earth temperature increases, anyone of
average intelligence would argue that it is not happening. The real
question is, "is a normal temperature fluctuating" or is it a result
of come external change. And if the latter, what is the cause. And
once the specifics have been determine, "what can we do about it".

But you guys say Tea Party is just old white people. Kadaffy was
Arab.
Nice flip-flop.

I'm west of the storm. I'm OK, fortunately. Yes, I live in
PRNY.
This AM, the exhaust sheared, on my van. I spent about four
hours patching it (metal content). I'll write more about
that, if asked.
Lets hope the Occupy Wall Street crowd freeze butt, and go
home to thier mom's cellars. Lets hope the hard working
people of the area are safe, and no injuries from candles,
carbon monoxide, etc.
This just after the major power cut in Boulder, Colorado. A
million plus, without power, due to snow storm.
It's long past time to be looking for backup heat, power,
light. For these ever so much more common power cuts. A word
to the wise is sufficient.

Dang. Every time I see trees downed by storms, I wish I knew some
gyppo loggers, and a sawmill.

Go not to the Net for answers, for it will tell you Yes and no. And
you are a bloody fool, only an ignorant cretin would even ask the
question, forty two, 47, the second door, and how many blonde lawyers
does it take to change a lightbulb.
