The whole reason for the Html helper is so that you don't have to break out of the php code to write HTML. It's just that. A Helper.

But as euromark said, it also helps with the routing of your application. So, even if you want to code the HTML by hand, you should at minimum use the Router::url() method to build your urls, especially for link, and forms.
