[android-developers] How to route sound to the speaker, even if phones are plugged in?

I seem to be unable to route sound to the speaker when the phones are
plugged in.
I want to generate an alarm to/in the speaker - to get the user's
attention - even if the phones should be plugged in.
But after having tried everything I can think of (using the
AudioManager), I seem unable to do it.

Has anyone managed to do this?
