[android-developers] Re: digital audio input to android phone or tablet

Unfortunately, it's a real time app i.e the feed has to be continuous and i have a piece of device that's outputting digital audio which i need to direct to the android device for recording and analysis.
I have Google Nexus phone from HTC running 2.3.3 and i don't see USB host mode option on it. Do you think a Motorola Xoom running 4.0.3 might have the USB Host Mode?

And @Chris you say - " You should, with work, be able " - i was wondering what's the scope of "work" is really - are we talking about some hardware changes or writing a patch in software for a driver and such here? Kindly point me to more resources in this regard. I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

You could also do so via the data network, especially if you can use wifi or do not need to transfer in real time.

If you do not strictly need a digital audio input, it should be possible to build an analog matching network to couple line audio into the microphone channel of the headset jack (most likely a resistor for attenuation and a capacitor to AC couple).  This may however be mono, and might require optimization for device model to get best performance.

Hi All,

I was wondering if i could feed digital audio input or line input [either using HDMI or USB or any such interface] into any of the android devices currently out there [phones or tablets does not matter]. AFAIK, built-in microphone is the only means of getting audio [analog at that] into the android system. Correct me if i am wrong pls.

TIA.
