Yeah that's really weird, good luck with your issue.  You may want to start looking into work-arounds, but what a pain.

Looking at this page: http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/graphics/2d-graphics.html you'll see what you're doing is actually encouraged.

Yeah, I can't reproduce it here. I see that you already posted
something to the one Samsung developer board -- at this junction, that
is your best bet.
