[android-developers] Position the bottom bar on side?

Hi,

I noticed that some apps in Nexus 7 - when in landscape mode - keep the bottom bar on side (as if it is still in portrait mode). 

How to keep the bottom bar on side so that I can increase the vertical space in landscape mode? Thanks!
