HTTP_Authorization Striped

I am using Tastypie and I am trying to use their ApiKey Authentication method.  When send a curl post to my api the HTTP_Authorization header is sent correctly, however when I look at the request.META dictionary I notice that the HTTP_Authorization has been stripped.

I am using uWSGI and Nagios for this, not mod_wsgi (which I know has this problem)

Any ideas why?
