[android-developers] If hdpi and xhdpi drawables defined, which drawable is used as base for an mdpi device?

If I define a drawable in hdpi and xhdpi but not mdpi, will Android (on an mdpi device) take the xhdpi drawable and scale it down by a factor of two or will it use the nearest defined density (hdpi) drawable?
