panel.addAttachHandler(new AttachEvent.Handler() {

  public void onAttachOrDetach(AttachEvent event) {

    if(event.isAttached()) {

       //scheduler here

    }

  }

});

Widget.onLoad() is protected so you need to override it in sub classes or implement it anonymously.
