OK, so since the last reply was in 2010, is there NOW in 2013 an API in addition to Lockscreen Widgets that allow devs to make custom lock screens?

Lockscreen widgets are cool and all but not as cool as a new way to lock/unlock your phone.

Terribly sorry -- I am concerned about techniques used by other apps,
then. Trust me when I say there are apps on the Market that claim to
do what you do that definitely behave as I describe.
