I see a "blank" map in IE8 (no map tiles, but controls and copyright
notices).
If I type "javascript:initialize();" in the address bar, the map
appears, tiles marker and all.

However, I see the same thing in Chrome
It works in Opera (9.01) and Firefox (3.0.14)

Looks to me like you might still need to call map.checkResize() (or
initialize) when you display the div which contains the map.
