belongsTo not behaving as expected

Hi there,

I've got an associations issue that I can't fathom where I've made the
mistake in.

I have:

User hasMany Member
Project hasMany Member
Member belongsTo User, Project

Which is essentially HABTM, but I am using the Member model to store
some extra information in, as suggested by the cookbook.

However I cannot do:

$this->User->Member->find() and retrieve any information from the
Project model
OR
$this->Project->Member->find() to retrieve information from the User
model

The actually foreignKey/className etc is setup correctly in the
models, which is leaving me a bit stumped. Any ideas? Am I asking Cake
to do something it can't do?
