[Rails] problem with select

I have this statement
ids = athlete.leagues.select("league_id").map(&league_id)

getting this error
Subject: [] athlete_injuries#create (TypeError) "wrong argument type
Fixnum
(expected Proc)"

Anyone know what is going on here?
