Minimum required PHP version for Cake 2.1.1

Hello,

I will be starting a new project on a server that has PHP 5.2.17 installed and I'd like to use CakePHP 2.1.1 (I've worked with version 1.2 in the past). I know that it says that the minimum required version of PHP is 5.2.8 but, just for fun, I uploaded an "empty" CakePHP 2 project to the server and hit the default page to see what errors I'd get.

On the home page, I'm seeing the "Your version of PHP is 5.2.8 or higher" message. That's not what I was expecting (and it's technically not true), but I'm wondering if maybe the difference between 5.2.17 and 5.2.8 is small enough that CakePHP doesn't care.

At any rate, what I'd like to know is whether or not it's safe to use the latest version of CakePHP on this server or if there are going to be some issues that I'll run into down the road. I'd like to avoid being a few months into the project only to realize that I really SHOULD have used an older Cake version...I'd also like to use the latest version if it's at all possible.

Thoughts? Thanks!

-Brian
