 I am not sure if this is a known issue or not. New version of ADT works fine with malformed 9 patch image, but old ADT does not.

My project includes a 9-patch file under ..\example\res\drawable-hdpi\navigation_bg_green.9.png. (see as attached) This is a malformed 9 patch png, without one-pixel frame that is transparent or white. Though I include this file, in fact  it is not used / referenced anywhere in my project. It was supposed to be used in later iteration of the project development and thus kept there in the code repository. 

My Eclipse/ADT (18.0.0, both on Windows 7 and Mac) worked perfectly with this and generated apk without any error.  However, when I shipped the whole project with source code to my workmate, his Eclipse (8.0.1,  Windows 7) complained "9 patch malformed." As the following log illustrated:  (full log attached as "bug.log")
