google map working but not searching correctly on postcode

hi,
i have successfuly followed the tutorial on creating a google map and
adding the api and making it centralize on the address i want on
loading but the problem i have is, when i search for my address with a
london postcode e10 5aj in the UK and the local address with marker is
rm10 9rr and the lat,lng are correct it reports that there are no
results within 100 miles, i changed this to 9000 miles and it finds
the address and says that the distance between them is 1200 miles when
it should be about 20-30 miles.

has anyone else had this problem or know what i am on about and know
how to resolve this problem i am getting?
i am sure its something i have missed but not to good about what to
look for.
