I ran into this same pricing bug on a free app myself, and also got it to go through eventually by just messing around with it. Took quite a bit of said messing, though.

Oh, and I reported it to the support link given above. They did actually reply, but lost interest when it came out that I was able to save it eventually. Sigh.
