I had the same issue while following the tutorial:

A friend of mine explained that it was coming from the packaging. Using setuptools/distribute creates 'eggs'.

If you did not solve the issue yet, you can try to add the code below in settings.py:

TEMPLATE_LOADERS = (

    'django.template.loaders.filesystem.Loader',

    'django.template.loaders.app_directories.Loader',

    'django.template.loaders.eggs.Loader',

)

The third line helped me.

I am looking at the different ways to package an app, and will try 'distutils' to see if it works without using TEMPLATE_LOADERS.

Template-loader postmortem

Django tried loading these templates, in this order:

• Using loader django.template.loaders.filesystem.Loader:
  • /Users/nnn/django_exercises/mysite/templates/polls/index.html, polls/poll_list.html (File does not exist)
• Using loader django.template.loaders.app_directories.Loader:
  • /Library/Python/2.7/site-packages/django/contrib/auth/templates/polls/index.html, polls/poll_list.html (File does not exist)
  • /Library/Python/2.7/site-packages/django/contrib/admin/templates/polls/index.html, polls/poll_list.html (File does not exist)
