Sorry bud, she is trying but she just isn't in Grace Slicks league. I had to bail at the
halfway point. Not as a bad as Aerosmiths rendition of "Come Together" though.

At work we have a lot of younger types that tend to play stuff that I have on vinyl. Even
those youngsters know that todays music doesn't measure up. Most tend to play a majority
of stuff from the 60's and 70's. Outside of country where I'll take a liking to a new
song, I can't think of a rock song written recently that I like.

There's been some new rock written lately?

Uh, Wes, how many new rock songs do you listen to? The heavily-produced
stuff that makes it on major radio stations is pretty junky, I agree, but
with a 22-year-old son, I find the CD player in my car full of indie rock
when he goes back to school. Some of it is really good. You won't hear it on
the radio, unless you're within range of a major university FM station.
That band that Gunner pointed to, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, is a
Boston-area band -- very professional, very hot. I disagree about her and
the band, in relation to Grace Slick and the Jefferson Airplane. The
Nocturnals are better musicians than the Airplane, and Potter's cover of
Grace Slick's version, IMO, is every bit as good (They could use a Marty
Balin, though). Slick was one of those rare, real contralto women; you won't
find many of them around (Stevie Nicks was another one), but I thought
Potter did a really good job with that song, even though she can't quite
reach down to the bottom of Grace Slick's range.
I'm trying not to listen to anything older than two or three years for a
while, just to tune in to it. I was getting to be a big White Stripes fan
but my son rolled his eyes and told me I was living in the past. <g> Get up
to date with Dirty Projectors, Xiu Xiu, Band of Horses, and Death Cab for
Cutie. Brooklyn indie rock is hot. Don't become an old fart before your
time. d8-)

Here is an excerpt (sp? ;>)) ) from the article:
From the new No. 6 shaft, the deepest perpendicular shaft
in the world, it was desired to crosscut a distance of 800
feet at the twenty-ninth level, or 4,250 feet from the
surface, over to the lode. Already from the twenty-ninth
level of No. 2 shaft, which is 3,220 feet at the surface
from No. 5... the engineers desired to solve the old
tunneling problem—that of beginning work at either end and
meeting somewhere near the centre.
In order to do this it was necessary to give the men
working from the No. 2 shaft drift the proper direction.
Already they had at the mine office a survey from which it
would have been possible to have begun work, but it was
desired to verify it. It was made years ago, and the
engineers thought that the opportunity of satisfying
themselves as to its accuracy was at hand. The dropping of
the plumb line was the first step.
Chief Engineer J. B. Watson and his assistants went to
work to use the method that had been tried many times. It
had been tried at the Tamarack mine before and had been a
complete success. At the vertical shaft of the Calumet &
Hecla, known as the Whiting or Red Jacket shaft, plumb lines
had been dropped by the engineers, and at other mines where
vertical shafts are in use it had been successfully tried.
In principle it was nothing new, but it was practically new,
as never before had it been necessary to deal with a shaft
close to 5,000 feet deep.
The idea was to drop two plumb lines down the shaft to the
twenty- ninth level, then to take observations both at the
surface and down in the mine, taking the same data. After
this had been done at the new shaft it would be necessary to
repeat the operations again at the old shaft, when it would
be possible for the engineers to give the miners, working
away from the old shaft and toward the new one, the proper
directions to enable them to meet the men working in the
opposite direction. The idea was a simple one and one that
is known to all mining men.

Lately there's been a spate of advertisements on TV for a product called
"Quietus" that claims to be an herbal cure/remedy for tinitus.
Being more than somewhat skeptical of herbal products I haven't sent them
any ca$h.

The man and woman had the same choice to have sex, unless it was rape. The
woman decides if she is going to be inconvenienced with the baby in her for
a few months. She can choose to kill it, give it up of adoption, or keep
it. A man has no choice, if she chooses to keep it, he will be forced to
pay for 18+ years. He doesn't have the choice to pay the cost of an
abortion and have no more responsibility. Totally a woman's choice but can
cost a man a huge chunk of his income for so many years. Keep it in
perspective, pregnancy lasts 9 months, child support lasts 18+ years, why
should women be the only ones with rights?

Tell you what, I'll alleviate some of your massive ignorance and you

The right to control one's body has nothing to do with gender.
For a bonus:
Go ahead, get pregnant and excercise the right to choose.

Dear mouse turd brain,
I responded to a post about women's right to choose.
The body she is having destroyed is not hers and the life she is taking is
not hers.
You alleviated one question though, I now know that you aren't smarter than

You have that right too, to excercise that right all you would need to
do is get pregnant.
You couldn't figure that out? That men have exactly the same rights?
You claimed "men have none", that is just stupid.
>
>The body she is having destroyed is not hers and the life she is taking is

Yet people like you claim children are "yours". Funny, you don't seem
to want anyone but you to have "rights" as you declare them.
Now, make your legal case for your claim. Please cite current law with
regard to support your claim:
>
>You alleviated one question though, I now know that you aren't smarter than

Are you pregnant yet?
So what gives you the right to determine the biological process in
another persons body?
Will you be allowing me to regulate the foods that you can eat?
Maybe a law that determines specifically when and where you are
allowed to defecate?
How about medical treatments? You are okay with the government
regulating which medical procedures are performed?
Where do you draw the line? Specifically, what gives you the right to
draw any line with regard to medical procedures?

I was watching the news this evening. One of the lead items was about
how Israel is risking undermining any potential peace negotiations by
beginning construction of new settlements in the West Bank. For the news
story, they showed some footage of the construction site. Strangely, it
appears as though they have blurred out the logos on the pieces of
equipment.
Do manufaturers fear some sort of backlash for providing equipmet to
Israel? And do they really think that most viewers won't be able to
identify 'Caterpillar Yellow'?

You can replace the head gasket with an acrylic sheet, bore it
accurately, and fill through a transverse hole in the sheet. Several
fill-from-bottle/squirt-into-hole cycles with a small (hypodermic)
syringe will get you to a filled cavity. If the syringe is well-
enough
calibrated, that's enough.
The sheet will be thicker than the real gasket, but you can measure
and correct for that. The transverse hole has to be UP, of course,
during fill, to let air escape.

Not on a Cox 049 you can't! The head screws on, into a cavity about 1/8
inch deep.
I'll be clamping the head to a bit of acrylic sheet, with a small hole
drilled into it.

Well I got the boat finished and ran it for about 30 minutes at WOT,
2500rpm with the prop. The 4 B belts are not slipping at all, the
prop is preventing the engine (350 chev.) from turning up any more, if
they were slipping the engine would rev. higher. After about 30
minutes there is no sign of abnormal wear. I can see this being very
fun, I was driving it around the snow covered yard, didn't get a
chance to try it in the water yet. I put a spring loaded tensioner on
the belts but they are not very tight. Opposite the tensioner I can
move the belts about 2". Time will tell if they last long term. If
anyone wants to see pictures let me know.

At the risk of causing a serious consternation, I want to confess that
I am going to make a base for this mill on casters. I will need to
move it about quite a bit. We are likely doing a house addition this
year and the mill will move into the new shop. I can always put 2x4s
under the base for stable placement.
Anyhow, I have these Colson 1500 lbs casters with dark red urethane
wheels, and I want to know if they would become unusable if I let the
mill sit on them for a week or two.

Try pressing your thumb nail into the urethane. My guess is: If you
can see an indentation, they will get a flat spot. If you can't, they
won't.
