Clinton alludes to 1995 bombing, says words matter

Former President Bill Clinton warned of a slippery slope from angry
anti-government rhetoric to violence like the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, saying
"the words we use really do matter."

The two-term Democratic president insisted he wasn't trying to restrict free
speech, but in remarks Friday he said incendiary language can be taken the wrong
way by some Americans. He drew parallels to words demonizing the government
before Oklahoma City.

On April 19, 1995, an anti-government conspiracy led by Army veteran Timothy
McVeigh exploded a truck bomb outside the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building,
killing 168 people.

"What we learned from Oklahoma City is not that we should gag each other or that
we should reduce our passion for the positions we hold — but that the words we
use really do matter, because there's this vast echo chamber, and they go across
space and they fall on the serious and the delirious alike. They fall on the
connected and the unhinged alike," he said.

"One of the things that the conservatives have always brought to the table in
America is a reminder that no law can replace personal responsibility. And the
more power you have and the more influence you have, the more responsibility you
have."

Clinton made the remarks at events sponsored by the Center for American Progress
Action Fund on the upcoming anniversary of the bombing.

He mentioned the rancorous fight over President Barack Obama's health care
overhaul. Passage of the law elicited threats against some lawmakers.

"I'm glad they're fighting over health care and everything else. Let them have
at it. But I think that all you have to do is read the paper every day to see
how many people there are who are deeply, deeply troubled," he said.

He also alluded to the anti-government tea party movement, which held protests
in several states Thursday. At the Washington rally, Republican Rep. Michele
Bachmann of Minnesota railed against "gangster government."

Clinton argued that the Boston Tea Party was in response to taxation without
representation. The current protesters, he said, are challenging taxation by
elected officials, and the demonstrators have the power to vote them out of
office.

"By all means keep fighting, by all means, keep arguing," he said. "But
remember, words have consequences as much as actions do, and what we advocate,
commensurate with our position and responsibility, we have to take
responsibility for. We owe that to Oklahoma City."

"Exposing Glenn Beck as a Dangerous Fraud, Part 2 "
[
....
Unlike the various Glenn Beck shows and publications, the Mercury performance of
the H.G. Welles classic featured a disclaimer at the end (quoted above),
formally noting the fictitious nature of the broadcast. Imagine if, unlike Beck,
Welles had never broadcast a monologue postscript revealing that what had
unfolded on the radio was purely theater. It's not a stretch to suggest that the
ensuing hysteria during and after the show would've been far greater.

Every day, for four hours a day, Glenn Beck is playing out a Welles fantasy --
leaping out from behind an array of Carrot Top-meets-Gallagher props and gizmos
while shouting BOO! at his audience without taking the slightest responsibility
for the ensuing hysteria. In Beck's case, the "boo!" comes in the form of Joe
McCarthy style red-baiting and Lee Atwater style race-baiting -- insisting with
wildly incomprehensible chalkboard scribblings that Marxists and communists are
lurking under our beds waiting to steal our money. Money that's better served
feeding Glenn Beck's empire of fraud. I mean, just look! Those random words on
the chalkboard spelled out the acronym "OLIGARHY!" Run for your lives, and all
that. It's an OLIGARHY!

"Discovery Channel Insider: Sarah Palin's Show Is "a New All Time Low for
Discovery" "

[
....
Last week Discovery had its annual sales conference for ad buyers for all of its
13 networks. The presentation showcases all of their new shows across the
different networks. That night the presentation was on Sarah Palin's Alaska.

Our source says "the whole thing [was] comical." Apparently the ad buyers were
not impressed. This Discovery insider said, "When the promo was over, people
(employees and buyers) were rolling their eyes, snickering, and even laughing.
People were laughing and it's not even a comedy. No one took it seriously."

This person was concerned that given the lack of interest from ad buyers that
Discovery would have to dump the show to "a crappy time slot" to cut its losses.
They added, "Bottom line everyone thought it was a new all time low for
Discovery. My guess is the show is going to tank big time."
....
The ratings for her new show on Fox News Channel were already low (she couldn't
even hold on to Greta Van Susteren's audience). Imagine how much worse she'll do
on TLC where the audience presumably wants to learn something, i.e. the exact
opposite of what Sarah Palin is known for. What's next for TLC, George Bush's
Ranch?

When are people going to finally realize that just attaching a "big name" to a
project doesn't mean it's going to work? The person hosting the show has to have
some credibility in the field. I'm not sure Sarah Palin has credibility in any
field.

Many people would argue that Palin did great ecological damage to Alaska and
would like to do more by drilling all over it. So, getting her to host a show
about the natural beauty of Alaska is a bit like getting Jeffrey Dahmer to host
a cooking show for the Food Network.

Radical right wingers --tea baggers et al --are accused of 'trawling for
assassins. It's but one of several outrages now associated with the
disingenuous, bigoted 'tea bagger movement'. The idea of 'assassinating' a
President because he is both black and Democratic threatens to finish off
America as a nation of noble ideals. Earlier the self-absorbed right wing
--thinking themselves rich --allowed themselves to be used by a GOP party
machine. They were fooled. To them, I say that like the rest of us, you have
awakened as a cockroach unless you were one already. A nation in which about one
half of the population openly pines for the murder of the only fairly elected
president in some 9 years may be finished. It's hard to see any redemption
following from that crooked, malevolent mentality. The writing is on the wall.
The American ideals most us grew up with are on life-support!
....
Not only have the Wall Street Journal and the hosts of Fox News been issuing
their usual dark mutterings, but a new slogan has began appearing on bumper
stickers, t-shirts, and even teddy bears: "Pray for Obama: Psalm 109:8."That
psalm reads, "Let his days be few; and let another take his office. Let his
children be fatherless, and his wife a widow."Maddow seemed mainly amused by the
teddy bears, but when she turned for comment to former right-wing evangelical
leader Frank Schaeffer, he emphasized that in a religious context "it means
something more threatening.""The situation that I find genuinely frightening
right now," Schaeffer explained, "is that you have a ramping up of biblical
language ... and what it's coalescing into is branding Obama ... as 'not us.'
... Now he joins the ranks of the unjust kings of ancient Israel ... who should
be slaughtered, if not by God then by just men."--Former evangelist: Religious
right is 'trawling for assassins'

That looks like the surveyors would have had enough distance to get
the beginning of the tunnels tunnels lined up before the stuff on land
got covered. More distance between survey points means more accuracy
but I'm sure there's a calculation to figure out how far apart the
first two points needed to be to give them the precision to meet up
with an acceptable error in the middle of the river.

Harold and DoN have the best suggestions possible. But, IMHO, Ned has the
best
advice. Prove us different, but this ain't gonna work on your lathe. You
just haven't
got a rigid enough setup.

The long part makes it far worse. I'd hack off a short piece that you can
still chuck,
put a plug in it and work right next to your spindle. This will make a major
increase
in rigidity.

But, i still think Ned is right.

You don't give any information on your home brew rotary
converter but it it's the usual type without "run" capacitors,
for 230v 60Hz and a 7.5 HP motor, your need to add about 200 to
250uF run capacitor to the phantom phase.

This should be enough to bring the current balance within
acceptqble limits.. Some further improvement can be made by
adding a second capacitor from phantom phase to the other side of
the supply and messing about with the relative size of the two
capacitors but the complication is rarely justified. Incidentally
the"obviously symmetrical" arrangement of two equal capacitors is
not useful - most or all of the capacitance needs to be in the
top run capacitor.

You are absolutely right in aiming for current balance.
Voltage balance only gives geneneral indication. It is current
balance that results in minimum I squared R loss and minimum
full load power drawn from the supply.

Hey Gunner,
so.........this is 2010 Gunner, not 1930's Germany. Your President,
irrespective of his name or party, deserves some respect for his
office. Its in your Constitution. He won a majority of votes according
to the procedures laid down by law. Democracy, the peoples choice. He
won, Gunner. So get over it, give the guy a break - wtf did he
inherit, and have to TRY to fix up- mate, whats your place in the
world these days? - use your own brain, start THINKING about whats
really going on. Its not a Conspiracy, its the same old games, same as
before, the ones that started all the wars and got the simple minded
convinced that their masters were right - they even echo their
propaganda. You have a hereditary ruling class, Gunner. Same as most
other stable systems. Born to Rule, I think its called - saves the
serfs having to think too much. Their sons dont go off to die in
foreign wars. Thats the serfs job.
Now, whether this goes over your head or provokes a knee jerk reaction
is immaterial. For somewhere, in the crevices of your own mind, you
ARE wondering WTF is going on, and why things aint getting better....
Gunner, I wish you well, I really do. Underneath all the mad crap, I
reckon your a decent bloke.
Andrew VK3BFA.
