Not to put too fine a point on it, but with the proliferation of
cheap scientific calculators with the sine function,
charts/tables are obsolete. Also you can use the calculator for
speed/feed/DoC calculations.

I just made one for you in OpenOfficeCalc.

In cell A1 enter "1"
In cell A2 enter "=A1 + 1
Copy cell A2 and paste it downward to get all the angles to 90. Go a
little further to get some extra cells to enter custom angles.
In cell B1 enter "=SIN(RADIANS(A1))". This actually gives the sine of
the angle in degrees instead of radians.
Copy cell B1 downwards.
Format column B for 4 or 5 decimal places, one more than the
resolution of your gage block set.

As a check the sine of 30 is 0.5000, of 45 is 0.7071.
Go down to the last filled cell and change the angle to 14.5. The sine
is 0.250. That's supposed to be the reason for 14.5 pressure angle
gears, from way back when draftsmen drew them full size for pattern
makers.

In cell C1 enter "=B1 * 5", or whatever the length of your sine bar
is. Copy it downward and format the decimals.

Sorry, I believe the benefits of a viable space/science program FAR outweigh
the cost. In thirty years we might not need bridges because of a discovery
by the space program. How much money is wasted on junk science? ...and you
KNOW what I mean! Your Utopia is to take all the wealth in the world and
divvy it up. Good for you! Start with YOUR wealth...not somebody else's!
Have you ever contributed to any charities? Or, do you prefer that wealth
be confiscated from somebody else and given away...with a few political
strings?

You believe in Socialism/Marxism/Communism...I don't.

Well then there ya' go. I suggest that you attend your next school
board meeting and fill them in on your money-saving idea. Did you know
that some of those crazies believe that anything beyond about 20 grade
school kids per teacher is a recipe for even more of what we're
already getting: kids who are likely to need a picture of a burger on
the register key? Do you have any serious suggestions about how to
improve the situation?

Sure, but you believe a lot of really silly things. Will you show us
your estimate of the cost of a manned Mars mission, and your list of
the expected benefits? Or will you just blubber out a bunch of nutball
accusations as usual?

Are you thinking flying cars, or teleportation? I thought your main
thrust on usenet was that the world was going to hell in a hand basket
because of liberalism? Now you're writing like some idealistic grade

You're clearly the big spender here. What happened to capitalism? If
you think that a Mars mission will be profitable, then why are you
here instead of meeting with the rest of your investment team? If you
guys are willing to brown-bag it then you should be able to get to
Mars a lot cheaper than the NASA weenies who need big money just for
snacks.

Define "poverty" Or do you want to raise the bottom half so that
they are above the average?

We could do wonders for unemployment if we just did away with all
the machinery. How many people do you think we could employ building
roads, or buildings, or cars Heck, we could restore Detroit! if we
just did away with the heavy machinery which is taking the jobs away
from people.

So your advice is to what? Sit tight, do nothing which might cost
any money? Which might divert needed resources from a cradle to grave
safety net intended to lift the bottom twenty percent so that they are
above average?

> A Mars mission is a lengthy undertaking, and an underfunded

If you want to build a 'Star Ship Enterprise" and wait for the
future to get here before you start, then you are of course going to
be "underfunded."
But the technology exists right now, and there are resources
easily exploited on Mars which would enhance life on Earth. But don't
worry, those disruptions to the economy won't threaten you, if we
don't go.

As a person who lives in Illinois, too near Chicago; the local news
has been inundated with "Gun related deaths" lately. It almost feels
as though "Da Mayor" has told the local news to advertise all of these
gun deaths to help their F.o.S. case in front of the Supreme Court.
Maybe I'm just paranoid.

If da mayor really believes in gun control, have him dismiss his personal security detail
(they have guns).

The elites don't carry firearms, they have servants to do that for them. I can't afford a
proxy for my defense, I have to do it myself when allowed by said elites.

Regarding the behaviors I'm objecting to, I find nothing to tolerate in open

Nice rhetoric, Don, but all you're describing is the limitations of the
English language, and an apparent paradox that in fact is no more than a
word with a loose connotation that tends to fold back upon itself.

For example, in the classic movie "Intolerance," made in 1916 by D.W.
Griffith, the title referred to intolerance for his representation of the
KKK (in his earlier film, "Birth of a Nation") and its habits of lynching
and shooting black people. He thought the KKK just had another, and
generally admirable, point of view.

The people who know the difference will know what I mean. Those who don't
will play word games. Despite your careful and often convincing arguments,
you're not good enough at sophistry to convince me that black is white.

By now he'd have trouble convincing me that he doesn't agree
wholeheartedly with the cullers.

I use a bit of yellow legal pad paper on ALL of my lathes. Works very
well with no damage to anything.

Yeah, and it's only a hundred thousand dollar pay off. That's nothing
for a republican. Republicans don't even think pay offs that small are
even a crime. Now how about getting back to Obama and his crimes. Say,
he's still smoking isn't he?

I have a feeling we still know how to lift things into space. We launch satellites, we
work on systems to take out abm's and a year or so ago, we demonstrated a quick and dirty
ASAT weapon to take out a falling satellite. I still think that was a shot across the
bows to any nation that thought we couldn't back up our words.

We can still build launch vehicals.

A whole lot of fixturing isn't needed now due to CNC.

I wonder if the desire to put a man on the moon for the first time was made by our current
President, given our current state of technology if it would have taken even half the time
from when JFK made his statement? The only think I believe would cloud or hamper progress
is the quicksand of federal regs impeding progress of all sorts of projects.

The Pentagon was inhabited in 11 months, finished in 17 months. Could we get an
enviromental impact study and the lawsuits settled in 17 months now?

light from the hole in your head. Why can't you find your brain then? Your
brain can't be that elusive! Take a deep breath and have another look! Just
